Rangers quest to add to their sqaud has faltered at the first attempt with Israeli striker Tomer Hamed knocking them back.

The Maccabi Haifa striker looked to be heading to Ibrox earlier this week after having talks with Ally McCoist and Craig Whyte.

But the newly capped striker, who spoke to International team mate Beraim Kayal of Celtic, decided playing for Real Mallorca in the bottom half of La Liga was a better prospect.

This must be worrying for all Rangers as they look to put a new stamp on the side, given the effort they had put in to bring the Israeli to Scotland.

It will be interesting to see what impact this will have on any of the other people they have targeted over the summer. Another player who was meant to be almost certainly coming to Ibrox is Dundee Utd winger Craig Conway.

His could be sidetracked and he could head to England where a number of Championship clubs are courting him.

They have also been linked with Crystal Palace midfielder Neil Danns and are meant to be very keen on signing him.

Rangers normally keep their transfer dealings very quiet and don’t release anything until the deal is done. Maybe recent speculation coming out of Ibrox is alerting other clubs causing the Glasgow giants to miss out….
