Billy Dodds used his Sunday Herald column to have a right go at the players of his former club Aberdeen.

He used the column to say, “Craig Brown’s team has no character”, this is based upon them showing a lack of fight in the run up to a Cup Semi Final.

“Mediocrity has been accepted for far too long at Pittodrie”, as another great quote, particularly as goes on to blame the players for helping to get rid of Jimmy Calderwood and Mark McGhee.

He believes it is time to clear the decks at Aberdeen and it isn’t two or three players that are required but a major overhaul – well spotted Sherlock.

The column was a bit of fresh air, a Scottish football pundit who is prepared to tell it how it is rather than a mealy mouthed piece of rubbish that these columns can often be.

The only thing he lets himself down with is, he doesn’t name any of the players, apart from the one quality player he feels they have, Chris Maguire.

It will be interesting if Craig Brown has the energy to see things through in the summer and get rid of the players that need to be got rid of.

Guys like Diamond, Considine, etc have got away with it for too long, others like Vujadinovic and Blackman have added no quality to there squad. Paul Hartley has not been able to galvanise the side and someone with undoubted talent Steven Smith has, has been dragged down to the level of the others around them.

They are truly the under achievers in the SPL that needs the major shake up recommended by Dodds.
