Commons signs for Celtic - snubbing Rangers

Commons celebrates

It has been confirmed tonight that Celtic have signed Scottish International Kris Commons from Derby County, pipping Rangers to his signature.

Celtic have clinched the signing of midfielder Commons for approx £300000 on a three and a half year deal.

Rangers had been linked with a loan move for Commons earlier this week but have been gazumped by their Glasgow rivals.

This seems to confirm what many believe, Rangers no longer have the major spending power of the Old Firm sides. In fact, based upon this you could say they have no spending power compared to Celtic.

While Rangers attempted the loan move Celtic have stepped in and signed him on a full time contract – that seems to say it all!

At his press conference today Rangers boss Walter Smith attempted to put a brave face on the situation. He said it didn’t matter to him where the player had gone after he had refused to become a Rangers player.

With only four days left in the transfer window it will be interesting to see what other moves take place, and if Rangers bring anyone in at all!
