Inverness celebrate

The SPL threw up some surprising results yesterday with the biggest seeing Rangers lose their 100% record at home to Inverness, while Aberdeen and Motherwell lose to the bottom two.

The first game of the day was at Perth where Celtic won much more comfortably than they had done in the League Cup four days earlier. Once again Celtic were up early on, this time after only 68 seconds when McGinn reacted quickly to score from a tight angle after Smith had parried out a shot.

It was two by the break when Izaguirre pounced on a slack pass back to score. Saints were reduced to ten men when Grainger was sent off and Celtic scored a third in the last minute when McGinn added his second.

At Ibrox it looked as though Rangers would keep their 100% record intact when Maurice Edu put them ahead early on, but as the Subway Loyal were beginning to leave the ground Inverness popped up with an equaliser through Odhiambo in the 81st minute.

Motherwell and Aberdeen both started the week with back to back wins to move into the Semi Finals of the League Cup but both lost to sides from the bottom two.

At Fir Park Motherwell lost to their Lanarkshire neighbours Hamilton, thanks to Haaselbaink goal after 15 minutes. They didn't help their own cause just before half time when Hateley's half hit penalty was comfortably saved by Cerny.

The major talking point in the game was the decision not to Red Card Canning after he had bundled over Blackman for the penalty award - only Craig Thomson will know why it wasn't a goal scoring oppotunity.

Aberdeen looked to at least be taking a point from Paisley, McAusland had opened the scoring for the Buddies while in the second half McArdle equalised for the Dons. But their was a sting in the tale with Traynor sealing a home win in the 90th minute.

The final game of the day saw Dundee United heap more misery on Hibs with a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal from the prolific Goodwillie. The visitors were left to rue a penalty miss from John Rankine in the second half before Goodwillie pounced on defensive uncertainty to seal the points with three minutes left.
