Preston North End were today left dissapointed, when a last minute equaliser robbed them of all three points from a game they totally dominated.

Paul Smith struck an injury-time equaliser to earn Gillingham a draw.

Preston had taken the lead after David Nugent's acrobatic effort hit the post and went in off the back of Gillingham goalkeeper Jason Brown.

Nugent and Eddie Lewis forced Brown into action after the break as Preston dominated while Richard Cresswell headed wide when completely unmarked.

Substitute Patrick Agyemang scuffed a chance from close range before Smith converted Nicky Southall's cross.

Preston boss Billy Davies:

"A lack of concentration right at the end has cost us, but it's still a point gained.

"Some other results have gone our way so we've picked up a point on people and that is a positive.

"I've told the players there are going to be a lot of scrappy games between now and the end of the season and this was one of those."

Gillingham boss Stan Ternent:

"I'm pleased with the point but not the performance. I think that's as bad as we've played while I've been at the club.

"We've caught a real break at the end there. Preston were miles the better team and totally dominated throughout the game.

"Our performance was not up to standard so I'm delighted with a point."
