Since the departure of James McFadden to Everton the question on the lips of the Motherwell fans was who the front pairing would be ?
63 % of the fans who took part in our Poll wanted to see a mixture of experience and youth by playing veteran Alex Burns and youngster David Clarkson up front. Terry played the pair together against Hibernian and was rewarded by a double from Clarkson in a 2 - 0 win which saw Motherwell climb into the top 6.
Alex Burns was happy for Clarkson to take all the credit, he told Teletext " We played all the pre-season games together and had a lot of communication. I'm sure we'll gel. "
" Last season at Partick, Gerry Britton complemented me when I was getting most of the goals. Now I wouldn't mind playing the Britton role here and letting David score more of the goals. "
Terry Butcher was also quick to praise the performance of Burns and Clarkson, he said " They gelled well, and sometimes Burns doesn't get the praise he deserves due to the amount of unselfish work that he does. I thought he was unlucky with the shot that came back off the post. "
" We worked with Clarkson and Burns as our front two during pre-season due to the injury to McFadden and it showed with the communication today "
21 % feel Butcher's best pairing could be Alex Burns with former Falkirk striker Steven Craig who has also had spells in the midfield.
13 % Voted for the young forward line of David Clarkson and Kenny Wright who played well on his debut against Livingston earlier in the season.
4 % opted for the Clarkson and Craig partnership.
