Steven Craig opened the scoring early in the first half latching onto a rebound from a corner. Alex Burns who had an excellent match was unlucky not to double Motherwell's lead when his cross come shot hit the post and Steven Craig completely missed the ball with a fresh air shot with the rebound.

Motherwell got the second goal they deserved when Stephen Pearson broke free from the Carlisle defence to set up Keith Lasley on the edge of the box and the little midfielder slotted home the final goal of the match.
