Dirk Lehmann is in a state of shock after being told his contract would not be renewed, the German was released with Goalkeeper Stevie Woods, Dougie Ramsay and youngster David Clarke.


Dirk who had took a wage cut to stay at Fir Park last season when the club went into administration said " I never expected this but sometimes this happens in football when people misjudge your abilities.



"I am very surprised because they approached me three times to sign a new contract and now they say there is nothing."



The ex Hibernian frontman also claimed he turned down other offers from other clubs to stay at Motherwell , he told teletext " I even knocked back three-year contracts from other clubs to stay at Motherwell. "

Before this weeks shock announcement that players were being released, the Pride of Lanarkshire poll was asking if Dirk Lehmann should have been awarded a new contract. The results have now been counted and over half the Motherwell fans aree with Terry Butcher, 56 % said they wouldn't have offered him a contract. 25 % said they would have gave him at least one more season and 19 % would have offered him until christmas to rove himself.
