Greedy Effenberg is told to forget it

Both Steffan Effenberg and City are blaming each other for thye collapse of the deal to bring Effenberg to Maine Road. Effenberg is believed to have done a u-turn after initially accepting City's offer before requesting 50% more.

Effenberg deal off

The deal to bring Steffan Effenberg to Maine Road has effectively been called off after Effenberg once more made a prick of himself. Effenberg had reportedly agreed to sign for City on a club record £40,000 a week but apparently had a change of mind on discovering Turkish interest, namely Galatasary.

The Effenberg ego thought that with the additional interest he could up the ante as far as City were concerned and demanded a further £20,000 per week. City were not prepared to meet his £60,000 a week demands and informed Effenberg that the deal was off

Effenberg then chose today to spit his dummy out, claiming it was he that had pulled the plug on the deal. Perhaps he is correct if raising your demands by 50% is acceptable behaviour.

Much as this site would have lauded the signing of a player with the talent of Effenberg, you can’t help but think that this is a close escape. Effenberg has a track record of causing trouble and perhaps his ego would have been too much for City. For the player to slate City when it is his behaviour in question, says enough about Effenberg the man to me.
