Keegan is believed to be in the hunt for a forward, midfielder, central defender and goalkeeper to bolster his squad for the challenge ahead. Current rumours doing the rounds suggest that either Robbie Keane or Alan Smith, both of Leeds, will be brought in to supplement the current crop of forwards.

Keegan is also believed to want to recruit a top rated goalkeeper as his first choice between the posts. His dropping of Carlo Nash for the Ipswich cup tie suggested he does not believe him to be first choice and he still believes Nicky Weaver has a lot to learn both on and off the pitch. Top class keepers are notoriously hard to come by but with Keegan rating Maik Taylor, of Fulham, as highly as he does don't be surprised if a summer bid goes in for him.

Although many believe that Keegans priority is not defence, the recent confirmation that a £10 million bid was made for Jaap Stam should go a long way to proving the doubters wrong. The bid represented a "massive" statement of intent by both the board and the manager as to where the club are now doing their shopping and as to the calibre of player they want to bring to Manchester City. Many believe the Stam deal still to be alive, but his recent statement that he never wishes to play in England again, may have put paid to that. Keegan is unlikely to be put off though and a decent financial package may yet sway Stam.

Their is little doubt that City are blessed in midfield, with both Bernabia and Berkovic expected to shine in the Premiership. However with Berkovic's injuries and Bernabia's age expect Keegan to strengthen further. Strong rumours are coming out of Italy that a deal may have been struck to bring Clarence Seedorf over to Maine Road, the player not having the happiest of times at Inter. These are just rumours at the moment thoough, with no definate link having been made. The same can be said for a whole host of Italian League players.

Their can be little doubt that Keegan will spend this summer, but as to who, no one can really say as he plays his cards close to his chest. Expect 3 to 4 players in the £5 million to £10 million bracket with at least one being a major signing. Keegan has been the greatest thing to happen to Manchester City in a long time and I fully expect things to get better. The club is unrecognisable from the one promoted two seasons ago, both in status and financially. The board realise that to keep Keegan they have to back him financially if they want him to take the club anywhere. Roll on the good times.
