Champions?

City moved to within a point of both promotion and the Division 1 Title with a superb 2-0 win at Molineux. Shaun Wright-Phillips grabbed both goals as City rammed Dave Jones claims of being the best down his throat.

Keegan named an unchanged side after Richard Dunne passed a late fitness test. Shaun Wright-Phillips remained in the centre of midfield with Sun Jihai retaining his starting place as right wing back.

From the off both sides tactics were plain to see, Wolves intention was to kick City off the park, City's was to hit Wolves with pace. A strong referee was called for, unfortunately Graham Barber took control. Barber allowed Alex Rae's thuggery to dominate in midfield whilst booking City players for the slightest challenge. Despite the provocation, City kept their discipline and kept Wolves attacking play to a minimum. City created a few chances, a Darren Huckerby chip that was stopped by Oakes being the best. On 36 minutes City took the lead, Wright-Phillips creating space on the edge of the box before hitting a deflected shot through Oakes's legs. It was no more than City deserved after weathering the Wolves thuggery.

The second half saw City dominate as Wolves huff and puff got them nowhere. Bernabia once more ran the show from midfield and was given first class support from Wright-Phillips, both of them showing Alex Rae what football is really about. City had a blatant penalty turned down as Ndah handled a Wright-Phillips effort and then had a Steve Howey goal disallowed for Jon Macken standing his ground in front of Oakes. Graham Barber certainly tried his best for the Wolves cause but City's 11 stood firm against the Wolves 12. On 80 minutes Shaun Wright-Phillips sealed the match, and in all likelyhood the title and promotion, with a stunning 25 yard strike. Wolves lost their heads and it came as no surprise when lifelong blue, Paul Butler, was sent off for another shocking foul on Huckerby. Butler gestured that Huckerby should walk as well for having the audacity to be fouled, but this time Barber failed to read the Dave Jones script and got it spot on. City controlled the last 5 minutes, knowing that the hard work had been done.

A truly magnificent 2-0 victory that all but seals the title and promotion. Roll on Saturday .... party time.
