News has just broken that Stan Ternent is to leave the club after the Sunderland game. According to rumours Stan's contract offer has been withdrawn during talks on Monday. We will get more news as we get it - please stay with us.

Summary = There had been 3 to 4 months or negotiations, but no contract was ever offered.

                      It was Barry Kilby's decision not to offer a new deal to Stan.

                     He praised Stan saying he was a great manager, but felt it was time for a fresh  approach.

                     Sam Ellis will be leaving with Stan, Mick Doherty and Ronnie Jepson will stay until a new man is appointed - but can leave if they wish.

                    The job will be advertised, for a manager to take the club onwards.

Stan Ternent will leave Burnley in the summer after being told he will not be offered a new contract as manager.

His six-year tenure as Turf Moor boss will come to a conclusion when his present deal expires at the end of May.

Only last week, Ternent discussed his hopes to remain at the helm, despite a disappointing campaign on the pitch for The Clarets.

Burnley survived a brush with relegation from the First Division but Ternent was looking towards concurring on terms for a fresh contract.

He admitted holding talks with the club's board and was keen to resolve his own future before sitting down to arrange contract extensions for the players.

That job will now be passed on to the new manager after The Clarets opted not to reward Ternent with a contract for next season.

Ternent met with Clarets chairman Barry Kilby on Monday to discuss his position, with the decision to replace the manager taken for the long-term benefit of the club.

“Stan has done a fantastic job for this club, including a promotion and keeping us in the First Division for five seasons," Kilby told the club's official website. 

"I’m looking to the long-term future of Burnley. With this in mind, managerial changes are inevitable. There can never be a good time and difficult decisions have to be made.

“Stan and I have enjoyed a close working relationship, he has always been  passionate about Burnley and has been one of the best Burnley managers of all time. 

"I would like to thank him for his devotion and dedication to Burnley and he will always be revered at Turf Moor.”
