And Sean Dyche’s men were in seventh heaven when Danny Ings followed up his England U21 strike with a deadly brace within 13 minutes.

    Jonathan Walters pulled one back for the Potters on the half hour mark, and it was then a backs-to-the-wall effort to resist City’s relentless but ultimately fruitless attempts to deny the spirited Clarets back-to-back wins.

    Dyche made one change to the side that beat Hull last time out.

    Scott Arfield failed to shake off a calf injury and was replaced by former Potters winger Michael Kightly.

   Nathaniel Chalobah also missed out following a minor knock sustained on international duty.

    And there were encouraging signs from the off from the Clarets, with Ings – fresh from his international brace at Turf Moor for the U21s – and strike partner Ashley Barnes looking sharp.

   And in the 12^th minute the two combined to open the scoring. Dean Marney found Barnes on the far side of the area and from his low cross, Asmir Begovic – challenged by Michael Kightly – could only spill the ball into the path of Ings, who slotted home gleefully from six yards.
