Leicester City 2 Burnley 2

By Burnley FC
October 4 2014

Ross Wallace's stunning, injuy-time free-kick gave Burnley a deserved point at the King Power Stadium.  The Scot came off the bench to level the score in sensational fashion in the sixth minute of added time.

Riyad Mahrez’s goal on the stroke of half-time had for long seemed the difference between the two newly-promoted Premier League sides.

Michael Kightly had scored Burnley’s first since the opening game of the season only seconds earlier when he had cancelled out Jeffrey Schlupp’s opener six minutes before the break.

Ashley Barnes and Stephen Ward were both handed their first league starts of the season as Sean Dyche was once again without several first-team regulars.

The Irishman partnered Arfield in central midfield with Burnley lining up in a 4-4-2 formation.

Meanwhile, Champions League winner Esteban Cambiasso missed out for Leicester who had former Claret David Nugent on the bench.

It was Burnley who began the match on the front foot.

On 5 minutes, Kightly was not far away from applying a finishing touch after Lukas Jutkiewicz ran in behind the Foxes defence before flashing a dangerous ball across the face of goal.

Burnley playing well this second half,we deserve something from this game, just not getting any breaks.. Trippier now carted off on stretcher, looking grim for him.

Tripps stretchered off, doesn't look good, Keane on, I have wanted to see him involved but not in these sort of circumstances.

Got to applaud the guys played well after that abysmal tripe of last week.

I now fully understand why Sean has Wallace on the pitch (Sm151)

Managed to see the last 20min, fantastic effort and brilliant free kick by Wallace.
Trippier injury looked quite bad, any news yet?

Super Rossy Wallace.

Rare you see him have a bad game (didn't see him last week btw).

It's not all he is but he's the best free kick taker since at least 1985.

Can I be honest. I said when we won it "yes, Wallace is all over this". Then I thought it may have been a yard to close for him, he tends to like them that bit further out. Jones, or sometimes Trip, usually take the closer ones.

Reminded me of the one that smacked off the woodwork two Ewoods ago when we should have beaten them 12 months earlier than we did.

I know it didn't count for anything but he put an identical one in the back of the net in the pre-season game against Hellas Verona. Probably as deadly as there is in the League from that position.

Gobsmacked at the performance and scoreline.Kightly should be at centre fireworks irrespective........the juke can not score and Barnes will be a nearly man, I would partner Kightly with Barnes.I will stick my neck out and say in minutes played Kightly will score more goals than any other claret this season.

I was almost beginning to agree with BC and DT et. al. about our transfer policy before this game, and maybe their arguments still deserve some consideration.

However, despite all that, today made clear to everyone (Nigel excepted [:wor kid:]), once again, that we have the best manager in football - bar none.

How you put together a team effort like that after last week with the limited resources at your disposal and get a result like that is simply amazing.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Dyche sounded quite optimistic on Radio Lancs last night, he said it didn't seem as bad as they first thought, but they'd know better in 48 hours.

So-cal, yesterday's result just emphasises the point me & DT are making about our poor summer transfer dealings. With a cobbled together team we still managed to take a point off Leicester, just think what this manager could have done had he been given some serious reinforcements this summer, players like Lansbury, Deeney, Bryson etc. we'd be like Leicester comfortably in mid-table, instead we remain in the bottom three and favourites for relegation.

Had we blown an absolute fortune on Bryson and Lansbury to be back up to Marney and Jones we would have been in exactly the same position as the two that were brought in to be back up to them, Chalebola and Taylor, were injured. So they would have been injured.

I think we got it pretty much right, the only signings I would have made would have been Sordell, Lafferty and O'Neill.

I would have liked Deeney and I guess we could have used the salaries of the above three, plus the fee for Sordell, plus the fee and salary for Jutkiewicz (plus a bit more) to land him over Jutkiewicz.

But that's it, and as much as I wanted Deeney, I don't mind Jutkiewicz at all.

We didn't need to blow an absolute fortune on Bryson and Lansbury, and they both, Lansbury especially, would have increased in value. The journeymen we've brought in instead, Juke apart, will be worthless in a year or two and in the meantime we shell out big money on their wages for little return.

Why are you still banging on about Marney and Jones starting ? They were never going to start 38 PL games and we both accepted that we needed two quality CMs to replace them when they weren't on the pitch, not wasters like Edgar and Stock last season. I said it in summer that signing squad players wouldn't work because sooner or later those players are on the pitch, they're not squad players then, and they have to be good enough, you can't carry passengers at this level.

But the club decided to bank the money, sign dross or short term loan players, and hope the manager can perform another miracle.

So here we are, 15% of the season gone, no wins and bottom of the league. But what do I know eh ?

But they wouldn't have played up to Marney and Jones being out, and when Marney and Jones were eventually out, unluckily were both the back ups we signed (the ones we signed in place of Bryson and Lansbury).

We would have still had the same team out on Saturday, or maybe a worse one as the likes of Reid and Ward probably wouldn't have arrived as full back back ups due to money spent.

Anyway, going nowhere this.

See you in 2 weeks brother and let's all get behind England for the next week and their magical skipper.

What magic trick was the clown trying to perform kicking Downing up the backside with the ball nowhere near, no way for a captain to behave, but he's conned two managers into giving him the job. He's a right fecking plonker and no mistake.

How do you work that out MH, you've no idea whether Lansbury or Bryson would be injured. For instance if we had signed those two we could have been alternating between four quality CMs, less minutes on the pitch for Marney and Jones and they might not have picked up those injuries in the first place. While they're having to play 85/90 minutes every game they're always more liable to be injured. No substitute for having good players sharing the job, all the top teams do it, trying to go with the same eleven all season died out long ago, before you were even born mate. Get up to date.

You play your strongest 11 and when someone has a shirt, they keep the shirt until they lose it.

Had we spunked ludicrous amounts of money on a different set of sub centre mids then we would have had an even weaker side out at West Brom and Leicester.

Aye, that's what my granddad always said, you'd have got on well with him, he loved Jimmy Mac and Tom Finney but he's been dead thirty years. Have you still got a B&W TV in your house ? FFS mate what are you talking about, it's 2014.

Last season only one United outfield player started more than 30 games, only two at City and three at Chelsea, yet you expect Jones and Marney, in the most physically demanding positions on the pitch, to start 38. You're a dinosaur mate, doesn't happen in the modern game.
