SCOTT Arfield provided the present all Clarets fans were looking for to put Burnley on top of the tree at Christmas.The Scot struck a magnificent, curling winner two minutes into the second half to end a humdinger of a Lancashire derby.
Danny Ings had earlier put Sean Dyche’s men ahead with his 17th goal of the season from a rehearsed corner, only for Craig Cathcart to level the scores with a firm close-range header. But Arfield’s wonder goal was worthy of winning any game to ensure a festive number one and ensure that Burnley’s proud unbeaten home league run will go into a 10th month. Sean Dyche selected the same starting side that earned the Clarets a hard-fought draw at Leicester a week earlier. And in an explosive start, Blackpool were rocked as the Clarets were ahead on seven minutes. Arfield’s shot was deflected for a corner and from the resulting flag kick, a training ground routine worked a treat. Michael Duff dummied David Jones’ low corner pulled back to the penalty spot and Ings pounced to beat Matt Gilks with a low drive from 12 yards. That brought an immediate response from the visitors and Tom Ince almost brought Blackpool level within six minutes. The wide man embarked on a stunning solo run that ended with Jason Shackell making a perfectly timed last-ditch tackle as he shaped to shoot. The Blackpool dangerman then laid on a perfect chance for Barry Ferguson to equalise, dummying past Ben Mee and squaring the ball for the skipper, who totally fluffed his lines from 10 yards But Blackpool did finally grab a deserved leveller in the 15th minute .The Burnley defence was under increasing pressure and from a right wing corner Cathcart rose highest to plant a header past Tom Heaton from point-blank range. And but for a remarkable save from Heaton, the Seasiders would have been ahead just before the half -hour mark. The Clarets ‘keeper had no right to keep out Dan Gosling’s perfectly placed side-foot from 12 yards, but somehow got a glove to the goalbound effort to keep the scoreline level. And Heaton was again called upon 10 minutes before the break, turning Davies’ 25-yard daisy-cutter round the post. To read the full match report please click on the link below. |

Looking forward to this. Hope we can get a decent crowd, im sure they'll be bring a few.
Think we've got everyone available, so should have our strongest eleven starting.
Not sure about them. Set of dirty swines have had five players sent off their last two away games.

Think if we keep our heads we should beat them. Might not be a very pretty game, though.
Not sure what the Blackpool situation is with suspensions, will they all return now?
Fuller and one other suspended. Cathcart and Osborne injured. They are expecting to put out a very inexperienced back four again.

Nothing about their recent implosion? It isn't half odd to read others' views on us sometimes.
Thing with Lewis Jones Jabber is that he's looking for value bets and he reckons we aren't an odds-on chance, which is fair enough. If we were priced at say 2/1 he'd probably make out a case for us being a good bet at that price.

I don't really understand odds and all that stuff, but I'll take your word for it!
I'll be disappointed not to win given their recent woes but still expect a tough game. Always loved the games against Blackpool having done my training there and living a stone's throw from Bloomfield for three years.

I'm expecting a very tough game, it's just the nature of this division, and Blackpool have lost only 3 out of 10 away games. Even though we've had good results this season I've only seen us blow one team away and that was Birmingham, every other game I've seen has been a battle. I don't see why tomorrow will be any different, any sort of win will do for me.

The Beeb are not exactly reassuring: Burnley have won just one of their last eight matches, a 1-0 win at Barnsley. That eight-match sequence followed a run of eight consecutive wins in all competitions. Burnley, like QPR, are defending an unbeaten home record in the Championship this season. Their only reverse at Turf Moor this season was a 2-0 defeat against West Ham in the Capital One Cup. Burnley have not scored more than one goal in any of their last six matches."

One of the most blatant dives I've ever seen. I @#$%& hated Preston back then, they always had those players who just boiled your @#$%&; Fuller, Nugent and of course Nogan.

Burnley are on the top position in the Championship most deservedly .The fighting spirit of the players is to be applauded .So far they have done no wrong .We wish that we shall continue with the winning streak till the conclusion of our last match .

Could have been behind at half-time but we crushed the life out of them in the second half, they were reduced to long range shots by 70 minutes and were well beaten at the end.

Paul Ince has, apparently, criticised our style of play and labelled us a 'long-ball team'.
Great win, enthralling game, terrific to watch, Ings could should have had 4.
Second half mostly Burnley, should have been out of sight long before end and saved a few chewed nails.
Crowd noise excellent. The best for weeks.
And then steak and ale pie at the Queen in Cliviger followed by Sticky Toff Pud and custard on the way home.
