DANNY Ings made it a ‘magnificent seven’ and Sam Vokes opened his account for the season as Clarets survived a second half onslaught at Hillsborough.
Ings’ header midway through the first half saw the striker register a goal in the seventh successive game, including a productive pre-season. And when striker partner Vokes grabbed his first goal of the season soon after, Sean Dyche’s men put crucial daylight between themselves and Wednesday. David Prutton replied with a second half header to set up a nervy finish at Hillsborough. But after a dogged and magnificent rearguard, Burnley survived an aerial onslaught to record a terrific victory to build on the opening day draw at home to Bolton. The Clarets were unchanged for the third successive game, with the only change coming on the bench, where fit-again Ben Mee replaced Luke O'Neill. But it was the hosts who had the livelier start, with shots narrowly off target by Helan and Antonio. To read the full match report please click on the link below; |

Vokes Good squad player, good option from the bench, not sure about starting eleven

Well said MH, my thoughts exactly, although I must add that I also said Ings for Pato was a big plus, which is turning out to be correct.
Of course it's not perfect, we still have problems but in general, with this manager, we're in a far, far better position than you'd ever believe from reading the incessant moaning, whingeing and criticism that's been a feature of the msgboards all summer.
But the moaners won't have gone away, one bad game, one bad result, which will inevitably happen, and they'll be back, they'll be kicking off again. I'm not sure what it is, maybe the PL season, but so many fans these days seem to have lost their grip on reality and expect us to be challenging for promotion every season. We lost our best chance first season back down, now Dyche and the current first team is as good as we can expect IMO, but not for a lot of fans it seems.

Still let me go on record. I'm still not 100% convinced about Dyche. I like that he's looking like proving me wrong and I hope he continues to make me look like a 'div'. I was optimistic when he arrived, a little concerned by the end of the season but pre season and a couple of games so far have got me feeling more and more confident we can avoid the drop this season and maybe even be comfortable top 10 - which would be a decent outcome with our budget.
