Dundee United have confirmed their interest in West Brom midfielder Derek McInnes. United manager Ian McCall has already brought in Alan Archibald and Scott Paterson from Partick and Barry Robson from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

McCall is now looking for a central midfielder alongside Charlie Miller, who recently signed a new one-year deal at the club, and McInnes fits the bill.

The Baggies midfielder, who turns 32 next month, has played twice for Scotland this season but has since slipped out of the international reckoning.

A United spokesman said: "Derek McInnes is one of several players we have expressed an interest in.

"The manager Ian McCall admires Derek McInnes and he is someone we are interested in.

"But it is too early at this stage to say just how far that interest will go."
