Dundee United have reached agreement with former manager Alex Smith over compensation following his dismissal in October. Dundee United have reached agreement with former manager Alex Smith over compensation following his dismissal in October.

The former Tannadice boss was due to take the club to a tribunal today but both parties have reached an amicable settlement.

A United spokesman said: "As long as the lawyers were still speaking, there was every opportunity that the matter would be settled.

"We are delighted to say that the matter has been settled and there was no need to go to a tribunal.

"It was amicable and that puts the matter to rest now."

Smith was dismissed by chairman Eddie Thompson just days after he took over at the club.

The Tannadice chairman then appointed Paul Hegarty until the end of the season before sacking him at the end of January to be replaced by ex-Falkirk boss Ian McCall.

Former Scotland Under-21 boss Smith joined Ross County as successor to Neale Cooper in November.
