Wrexham's division two game against Oldham Athletic has been called off, the pitch is frozen hard beneath the main stand at Boundary Park and the game was called off after a pitch inspection at 10:30am.

The postponement means Wrexham could well lose further ground on the play off chasing pack as the other clubs are set to play with the frost not seeming to get the better of the majority of the clubs.

Denis Smith, Wrexham manager took out the insurance of having his first team players report to Colliers Park as normal today, Smith said to the Evening Leader '' Normally, if we are playing on a Tuesday we don't have the players in until just before the game. I rather suspected the match might be off so I told them to come in as normal and at least we can get in a full training session''

“It’s unfortunate but that’s life. We wanted to play because we need points to put us back up there among the clubs pushing for a play-off place. All we can do now is train as normal and prepare for Saturday’s home game against Grimsby Town.”

The Oldham postponement also keeps two players waiting to return from suspension. Centre-back Dennis Lawrence and skipper Darren Ferguson missed Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Rushden and Diamonds because of suspension. Both had one-match bans. Lawrence was sent off in the 1-0 win over Barnsley and Ferguson was out after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
 

Smith said: “I think Brian Carey and Lee Jones would have been extremely doubtful tonight, anyway. Both felt under the weather on Saturday and neither of them were able to train yesterday. Hector Sam also got a deadleg injury on Saturday and Paul Edwards has been feeling his hamstring. At least the time off gives us a bit of scope to work on them but, as I say, we really wanted to play tonight if possible.
 

“Our last few results have not been good and it’s important we stay in touch with the leading pack. You can’t do that if you don’t play.”
