The win away at Blackpool puts Wrexham just four points behind leaders Plymouth Argyle. Who would have thought that after Saturday? But those incredible travelling supporters astounded the chairman, manager Denis Smith and skipper Darren Ferguson at rainswept Bloomfield Road last night.

There was 244 Wrexham fans in the crowd of 4,864 - more than were at Yeovil and that is incredible in the wake of the cup collapse.

Chairman Gutterman told the EVENING LEADER - “We’re so proud of the lads coming back like that after what happened on Saturday. I’ve also got to say our support here after Saturday was phenomenal. Fantastic.” Smith led the applause for those fans, who sat in uncovered seats in torrential rain. “They’ve travelled down to Yeovil and were let down. Yet they’ve turned up again here to support the team. That is unbelievable. These are the people whom my heart went out to on Saturday and they’ve stuck by the side. The players, I’m sure, won’t forget that. I certainly won’t.”

Captain Darren Ferguson also spoke out - “It was chalk and cheese from Saturday. But what I would like you to mention is the support we have had here again. It was tremendous. The lads really appreciate that, particularly after what happened at Yeovil.”
