Peter Furneaux the Mariners chairman made a cheeky bid of around £75,000 to Sunderland but was refused immediatly , Oster in his second spell at Grimsby would love a move back to his first club after not so successful periods with clubs in the Premier League.

Sunderland have said a big no to Grimsbys advances with Furneaux saying to The Sunday Sun "John Oster is simply not for sale,"

"I sat next to Bob Murray at the Worthington Cup final and asked him several times about the player."

"I made the enquiry, and asked him again - but he made it absolutely plain the player is not for sale."
