Reading have signed former Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann. Hahnemann spent a spell on loan at Reading last season and impressed boss Alan Pardew enough to offer him a permament deal following his release from Fulham.

Pardew told of his delight at the signing to the clubs website. "Marcus did a terrific job for us last year and it was essential we had more experience and competition in the goalkeeping area.

"I think he's the best offensive goalie outside the Premiership."

Chairman John Madejski revealed that the club beat off competition to sign the US international. "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Marcus back to the club.

"He was an inspirational figure during his loan spell with us last season and will be an excellent addition to our squad as we mount our challenge for a successful first season back in Division One."

"Marcus was approached by other clubs, but he was always very keen to return to Reading.

"His enthusiasm to play for the Royals was an important factor in this signing."
