Gerard Houllier has hinted that he may become director of football at the merseyside club during an interview with the media today.
Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has been
talking about his hopes and plans in an exclusive interview in today's Mirror
newspaper- and evenb hinted that he may become directo of football at the
Merseyside club.
Houllier said: "The most important thing for me is the future of this club,
not Gerard Houllier. I don't want to be seen as somebody who has spent a lot of
money and when he leaves there is no team.
"I can tell you that there is a team here that will succeed and whether
that is one, two, three or four years doesn't matter.
"It is the same with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. He has brought the club a
lot of young players and it may not be him that sees the best of them. But never
mind. You work for that. You work for the future of the club. So it is not in my
mind that I will be regretting if the club goes on to greater glories when I
have left. In fact, I will be very happy if the club continues to be successful.
"In terms of being director of football here, really I don't know.
Certainly not at the present moment. It isn't going to happen in the short term
but if they wanted me to stay on in some capacity in the future, then of course
I would think about it.
"Only time will tell if I will be the manager here for the next three or
four years, but that is what I would like because the team we are shaping will
get better and better.
"I want whoever comes after me to be successful because that means the
roots that we put down here were strong.
"We have a plan. We know where we want to go and we know it is only a
matter of time.
"We are confident that things will happen here. I am a great believer that
when the attitude is right and you have got talent and you focus your energy on
that talent, at some stage, you get your rewards.
"We have come a long way in my four years in sole charge and in four more
years we will make more huge strides.
"Of course I would like to be here. I want to win the title and it will
happen."
