It turns out that Newcastle United haven't made a bid for Nicky Butt and in fact, aren't even interested in the experienced due to the wealth of talent they already posess.

Reports on Friday suggested Butt had agreed a £5m move to Tyneside - but they were greeted with surprise at St James' Park.

"It's a load of rubbish,'' said a club spokesman, as insiders pointed to the wealth of midfield talent already on the club's books.

The club already have great midfielder's such as Jermaine Jena and Gary Speed and have many other good players as backups and purchasing another one, no matter how good, would be a waste of money.

"Well I'm not actually that disappointed." Newcastle United fan Craig Davidson told me. "We already have a load of good players up here and bringing in another would be pointless really. Yes, he's a mint player but we don't need him."
