Well done to our reserve side who won the West Cheshire League for the first time since 1995, when they beat Newton 2-0 at Rivacre Park. Well Done to Steve Leyland who has done a fantastic job in his first full season with the reserves. This win was their 12th in a row, and meant that their record since September is PLD 18, W 16, D 2, L 0. Which is exceptional considering Steve took them from fourth from bottom in December 2001, when Gary Evason quit because of work commitments. This result meant that neither Poulton Victoria or Cammell Laird could catch The Motormen.

Steve Leyland said of his triump, "Winning isn't a habit you can take for granted but even though we'd done so well over the last couple of months I was very nervous for the team on Saturday. Although we didn't play well we still managed to get the all-important result we needed to finish the job.

"Many of my players are technically good enough to make the step into the UniBond League squad, They just need more experience.

I don't know what Alvin McDonald's plans are for next season, but I suspect he will sit down with me at some point to discuss which members of the squad might be ready to progress into the senior side".
