Portland has a strong game but are unable to put the ball in the net. Seattle plays well and puts the game away in the 28th minute.

August 9th Seattle
Portland puts on a good show in an important match but come up empty against Seattle. Seattle’s Kyle Smith comes up with the game winner in the 28th minute of a pass from Scott Jenkins. Portland out shot the Sounders 14 to 9. Byron Alvarez and Hugo Alcaraz had the best chances early for the Timbers. At the end of the match Scott Benedetti hit the crossbar in the 72 minute and Jake Sagare hit the side netting in the 78th minute. The key was the Sounders defense that played solid throughout the match. The Timbers must win their last six games of the season to move on to the playoffs.
