Nottingham Forest center-half John Thompson will now have to undergo surgery in order to fix a dislocated shoulder. This is just another one of Kinnear's defensive troubles.

The news that Nottingham Forest's central defender John Thompson will be required to undergo surgery has been met with dismay by fans of The Reds.

'Thommo,' as he is known by his many admirers, picked up a dislocated shoulder not long ago, but it was not thought to be so serious at first.

The Republic of Ireland international was never a first choice player in his position, but now that Dawson and Wes Morgan will be out for the first few games of the season, he would've had his chance to shine.

With Forest already in the midst of a defensive crisis before this emerged- Thompson's needing to go under-the-knife is just another addition to  long list of worrys, for a club who have been faced with several troubles this pre-season.

On the positive side, Alan Rogers will definately be available for the clash with Wigan Athletic at the JJB Stadium this Saturday, and Paul Evans should also have recovered before the weekend.
