Young brother of Genesis manager Garry Flitcroft, midfielder Steve Flitcroft joined Leigh Genesis from Bamber Bridge on registration deadline day on 26th March 2009, making his Leigh debut as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Cammell Laird at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on 31st March 2009.

Hardworking midfielder Flitcroft, a former England Schoolboys international, began his career with Blackburn Rovers before enjoying three title-winning seasons with Accrington Stanley during a five year spell that saw the famous East Lancashire outfit rise through the divisions to reclaim their Football League place.

Flitcroft has also represented Barrow and Stockport County before joining Bamber Bridge, where he appeared alongside Genesis team mates Neil Zarak and Tom Ince prior to their move to Leigh.

Flitcroft's full Leigh Genesis debut came in a 2-0 defeat to Matlock Town at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on 18th April 2009, with his first goal for the club coming three days later in a 2-1 victory over Bradford Park Avenue at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on 21st April 2009.
