Whitham, Dale 2009/10

Versatile player who came through the Genesis youth ranks to make an impressive Leigh Genesis debut on the right hand side of midfield in the 2-2 draw away to Whitby Town on Saturday 15th November 2008, aged just sixteen years old.

Whitham also filled in on the left hand side of midfield and even as a striker during his debut season, going on to make eighteen appearances during 2008/09 that saw him rewarded with a new deal for 2009/10. His first senior goal for the club came on his thirty second appearance in a 2-0 win over Trafford at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on 7th October 2009.

Dale's form over the 2009/2010 season was rewarded with a call up to the ESFA England Under 18's squad for their friendlies against Malaga and Gibraltar in February 2010, whilst also appearing in the prestigous Centenary Shield competition.

After a terrific 2009/2010 season, Dale was presented with the Young Player of the Year award as voted for by members of the Leigh Genesis Supporters Association.

After making more than fifty appearances over the space of two seasons, Whitham left the club in May 2010 to join former manager Garry Flitcroft at league rivals Chorley.
