Given the close relationship Kenny Black had with Robertson at Elgin its no great surprise that Davie Robertson has been given a job at Montrose. He is to work alongside Eddie as co-manager but only time will tell if this is a positive move or one that triggers a war in the dug out. So after Black's failed attempt to take over Elgin where Davie Robertson's job became untenable and resigned. Robertson was appointed Montrose co-manager. John Paton has stated that "Eddie and David will occupy equal positions—they will both be in the dugout, consult with each other and jointly choose the team, Eddie will be in charge of coaching and training and David will be responsible for all the other duties of a manager."


Scott Kopel left at the end of the season and the club were believed to be searching for a new assistant to Eddie but alas Mr Paton had this to say on the matter "Instead of an assistant manager we have taken the route of appointing a joint manager with top-level experience. If we thought it would not work we would not have gone through with it. The job has changed since Eddie took it on. We have a bigger geographical spread of players with training on Mondays at Aberdeen, the all weather pitch at Arbroath and Cumbernauld and everyone at Arbroath on Wednesdays"

So out has gone the plans for local training and a new fragmented system where player bonding can only happen once a week has taken its place.

What a lot of fans are asking is. Why is Robertson, a guy who was knocked back for the job in November, suddenly flavour of the month? Perhaps its Mr Black calling the shots or perhaps it was always in the back of the minds of the current board to go down this route.

Only time will tell if this is the right move for the club.

On a Brighter note the signing of Andy Rodgers from Dumbarton was also announced on Tuesday. Rodgers who finished top scorer with the Sons last year is a welcomed boost to the frontline.

Also the under 17's team are heading for the sunshine of Malta for three weeks. The trip includes coaching, training & matches and will be attended by SPL clubs aswell as SFL teams. Montrose's inclusion was due to another teams withdrawal and can only help the youngsters as they begin their careers in professional football.
