TNS moved comfortably into the final of the Welsh Cup by knocking-out holders Rhyl 3-1 at the Racecourse Ground.

After having come second to the Lilywhites in the league and cup last season The Saints gained revenge as goals from Jamie Wood, Mike Wilde and Scott Ruscoe put their side into the final.

The damage was done in just 60 first half seconds as firstly, after 19 minutes, a through ball by Ruscoe saw Wood get past two Rhyl defenders before side-footing past Paul Smith in the Rhyl goal to put TNS 1-0 up.

A minute later the lead was doubled as a long ball forward was unable to be controlled by James Brewerton, allowing Wilde to capitalise, controlling the ball and slotting it past Smith.

It was Rhyl, however, that had started the better.

In the eighth minute a good attack was wasted when Chris Adamson decided to shoot from distance when he had Andy Moran and Lee Hunt in space either side of him. The shot went harmlessly wide.

Adamson again tried his luck from distance a few minutes later, this time though, Gerard Doherty in the Saints goal was equal to the effort, tipping the ball over the bar.

The Lilywhites did, though, pull themselves back into the match after 81 minutes.

A cross from the right was met by Mark Powell’s well-taken downward header which left Doherty stranded as it went into the bottom corner of the net.

Rhyl’s comeback, however, only lasted three minutes as arguably the best move of the match finished the tie.

Marc Lloyd-Williams took the ball on the break, releasing Wilde down the right flanks. His pull back found Ruscoe in acres of space on the edge of the Rhyl box and he was able to round Smith and put the ball into the empty net sending TNS into the Welsh Cup final against Carmarthen Town.
