Bangor City fan 'Livzy' praises the work of Welsh Football's unsung heroes, and gives some invaluable advice for those planning a game of cards with the League's shot-stoppers.

Someone asked me once for some advice and all I could come up with was always change your pants before a first date, never have KFC before a skin full and if you’re on a coach back from South Wales do not, under any circumstances, get involved in a card school with goalies. Pretty poor really, considering all the things you really need to survive the twenty-first century but handy hints nonetheless. (Especially the cards one – I’m telling you now, it’ll cost a fortune!) Following Bangor home and away certainly gives you a different perspective on Wales and its inhabitants. Some of the places where I’ve expected to get a less than welcome reception have ended up being some of the best trips. There are many unpaid individuals up and down the country who work tirelessly for their respective clubs. The League of Wales has been Sponsorless for the most part of its existence and if it wasn’t for these “unsung” heroes, many Clubs would not be here. Even though many of us (who spend way to long on the internet) speak on a regular basis its always nice to meet face-to-face and “press the flesh” – even better when there’s beer involved! People like Phil Trenbath from Newtown, Alan Cookson from Aberwristwatch, Phil Woosnam from Rhayader (who didn’t deserve what’s happened to them) Ashley from Barry and Ci Snoop/Hela/Bulb/Nigel from Port Talbot to name just a few. Of course we have our own group of loyal “workers” – Howard and Brian in the tea hut, Bob Shop, Bob Tote, Huw P, S.G. Programme Man and all those who stand in the cold to sell tickets for one thing or another! (Not forgetting Hayley and Ken of course but this piece is more about the volunteers than the payroll!)There are lots more and I apologise to them if I’ve unintentionally missed them out but it is these people that keep the League of Wales alive – not yer Deaks or Evans or FAW suited shaggers on expenses.

I wonder why the League hasn’t used this resource in the hunt for more exposure, better facilities or even a sponsor? Perhaps the windows of Eastgate Street all point inwards. Don’t ask me – all I can tell you is when your keeper says “Hearts school?” keep yer money in yer pocket!!
