Saints beat City in Mickey Mouse Cup

TNS beat Bangor City 2-0 in today's Loosemore's League Cup final at Latham Park, in front of just 555 supporters.

The New Saints, already out of this season's Welsh Premier title race, will have to settle for winning the Loosemore's League Cup.

Goals from John Leah and Connal Murtagh ensured the Oswestry-based club victory, despite playing over half the match with just 10 men due to Matthew Berkeley's 42nd minute sending off.

The biggest disappointment was undoubtedly the poor attendance of just 555. Despite TNS and Bangor boasting a combined average attendance of over 800 this season, there was still little to attract the hardcore support to make the relatively short trip to Newtown.

How do the two teams have an average support of 800?

In all truth the English side are lucky to get 100 before the count all the diners in the shed and a handful of sweaty souls on exercise bikes.

Strange report - how is bangor to newtown a "relatively short trip" ?

Bangor fans knew they were unlikely to win this one but are almost certain to win next week in the SF of the proper Cup against bridge-too-far. If they had to decide, it's obvious they would make the trip next week.

TNS have an average attendance of 308 this season, Bangor have 500.

My point is you'd expect more than the 'average' amount of supporters going to a cup final, not less!

And Bangor to Newtown is 'relatively short' in comparison to if they'd had to travel to South Wales. I wouldn't say a journey of around 2 hours for a cup final was too demanding!

Also two hours to Aber from Bangor. You'll find a lot more of them lot going to the proper Cup SF next week.

For the Mickey Mouse Cup, they should have gone back to tossing a coin and giving it to whichever of the tysars won. There would have been more at Oswestry and more still had it been Bangor.

And was a bigger attendance than last year's final.
