The form book stood up today and was proved to be correct with its prediction of a Spurs away defeat. Not having the best away record this season combined with a terrible record over Boro pointed to the fact that we may have been heading for a serious let down. We went into this game with hope and renewed passion
with a much needed spring board win over Villa at
home, which should have lifted the players, not to
mention Euro football as a massive motivator. Our
tails were high, a spring in our step, and the taste
of Euro glory awaits . . . .

Alas we were greeted with a very well organised ‘Boro
side who stopped our midfield players for long periods
of the match, at times almost making our lads looking
light weight, some very poor passing mainly to red
shirts in the first half was also noted. As the game
progressed I was thinking to myself, hey what happened
consistency, did every player who was able to enjoy
the 5-1 win last week decide to relax going into this
game, sounds like a harsh statement but its how I felt.

I changed my views on the Brown / Carrick combination
as the season has progressed and now I quite enjoy the
industry Brown gives us and today did we missed him,
Davis has been out for a lengthy period and will take
time to get the form he showed when he arrived,
coupled with the injury to Mendes, ended up giving Jol
a small headache as he saw the midfield shutdown by
Boro. I cant criticise Davis but it was a weakness
today.

Ok the goal was deflected off Ledley and Cerny
certainly had a reasonable game which was the big fear
of losing Robbo at such a vital time in our season,
but this wasn’t the main issue today. I’m sorry to say
that last week heroics by Kanoute were over shadowed
by another performance which was far from good, even
Defoe looked out of sorts and I wish we had started
with Keane instead.

Its not all doom and gloom - while we will turn over
Blackburn next weekend in the last game of the season,
that I am certain of, our hopes lay away from WHL, and
every Spurs fan will be having their radios tuned in
to hear what’s going on elsewhere. If City can beat
'Boro by a one goal margin we need to make sure we
thrash Blackburn in the same way we did against Villa.

Today the best team won no arguments there but I hope
we can learn from this season that points dropped
against weaker teams is not an option.
