Rovers created many chances throughout the first half but had to wait until just after the half hour mark for the only goal of the half. Giuliano Grazioli was the scorer with a well taken lobbing header leaving an off his line Roger Freestone stranded and helpless for the game's opening goal. Just minutes after the break, Rovers continued where they had left off. Paul Tait opened his scoring account for the club with an easy chance off of a rebound after seeing an Astafjevs shot not gathered cleanly by Freestone.
It could have been 3-0 just minutes later when Tait, looking to doule his tally, tried a majestic long distance shot that hit the cross bar only to see it drop into the appreciative Freestone's arms.
Swansea player/manager Nick Cusack, in an effort to provide his team with some attacking options joined the action. But it was another subsitute who put The Swans back into the game; David Moss the man as he headed home a left wing cross by Keaveny.
Pouring forward with confidence, the Swansea front line now started to look dangerous and capable of leaving The Memorial Stadium with a point. This was not to be as an on the break Carlisle fed Grazioli who in turned laid it back for Astafjevs who drove home the shot that sealed the first 3 points of the season for The Gas.
