Jones - Good Performance

There is still little to shout about at the Riverside following a 0-0 draw today at the Riverside. Boro have now sunk to 19th after to failing to despatch of Blackburn in a must win game. Besides a stellar performance from Brad Jones there was little else to note that provides any inspiration of a Boro revival at this stage of the season. While fans are questioning the competency of Southgate for the managerial position, personally I am wondering whether the rest of the staff are providing enough experience and insight to further Southgate's development as a manager. Malcolm Crosby's own managerial record was hardly prolific, and Boro legend Colin Cooper was an inexperienced choice as a coach. While I know the McClaren years were not entirely glorious, but you felt that there was a competent back room supporting the manager, I feel it's not just our team on the field that now looks to be 'cutting its cloth' as it seems to relate to the whole system of the club.

Anyway, concerning the Boro you just wonder where do we go from here, 19th in league with a team who cant score goals to save their life. While defensively we were better today thanks largely due to the perfomance of Brad Jones, in recent games it has often felt as if we can't score or defend - traits of a team that looks destined for relegation. Some might think the club is too big to go down now (although people with this view are becoming the minority), but if you look at Leeds United and Forest for example they have hardly come storming back up through the league. 12 games without a win I think now, surely it must be getting to crunch time for Southgate, I mean he's obviously a Boro legend and a nice guy, but that doesn't necessarily give him license to run the club. I really hope he's able to turn things round but you do wonder now.

I think we started the season trying to be Arsenal and we're ending it trying to be Alledyce's Bolton. We're in a scrap and it may be the only way - but I'm not sure we really know who we are.

I can't believe Alves didn't start. He's a confidence player - he'd regained his confidence - now it will slither away....
