A last-gasp goal secured a point for FC United of Manchester in an eight-goal thriller with Warrington Town, but the Red Rebels lost valuable ground to South Shields in the battle for automatic promotion.

2,088 supporters were treated to a roller-coaster contest at FC United's Broadhurst Park, as two promotion-seeking teams shared the spoils in this Leap Year Day clash.

Neil Reynolds' men led their fellow Northern Premier League hopefuls Warrington by two goals, with Morgan Homson-Smith and Tunde Owolabi on the scoresheet.

However, the Cheshire club struck back with a quick-fire brace before the interval; as Jordan Buckley returned to haunt his former club.

The Wire made it a third goal in quick succession after the break, as Jack Mackreth's strike completed a remarkable turnaround.

Paul Ennis restored parity from the penalty spot shortly after the hour mark, but Warrington wrestled back the lead as Mark Roberts scored a captain's goal.

FC United were heading for a defeat that would damage their promotion hopes, and embolden Warrington's play-off charge. However, in the sixth-minute of stoppage time Curtis Jones headed home to the delight of the home crowd.

The breakaway club are looking to return to the sixth tier of English football after they were relegated for the first time in their history last campaign. FCUM currently sit third, occupying a play-off berth - and are six-points behind South Shields, and a point behind BAsford United - who boast a game in hand.

Full Time - FC United of Manchester 4-4 Warrington Town
Attendance - 2,088
