Two disappointing 1-1 draws...

By Roger O'Brien

Ahead of the Thursday afternoon Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar, Manchester United have had two hugely forgettable home draws against Rochdale in the Caraboa Cup and Arsenal in the Premier League. Neither game set the pulses rating and the opening day excitement following the 4-0 defeat of Chelsea now seems a million miles away. United look like a team who will finish in the middle of the table, the rebuilding work may take some time. The Europa League and the domestic cups probably offer the club their best chance of success this season. The top 4 looks a long way off never mind chasing down Liverpool and Manchester City...

After the trip to the Netherlands to play Alkmaar, the red devils travel up to St James Park to take on Steve Bruce's struggling Newcastle United. The Newcastle game is live on Sky kick off 4.30 on Sunday, whilst the Europa League game is on BT Sport with a 5.55 kick off.
