News: Ruddy goes to Motherwell on loan

Motherwell have signed Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy on loan with the option of a permanent switch.

The 22-year-old has signed a deal at Fir Park that will keep him with the club until January 2010 Michael Fraser some much needed competition for the number one shirt.

Ruddy joins in time to be registered for Well's Europa League qualifier against Steaua Bucharest.

Motherwell boss Jim Gannon has had Ruddy on loan before, when he was he manager of Stockport County so he knows the player well.

Ruddy joined the Toffees from Cambridge United in 2005 for £250,000, but has only made one sub appearance for the club although he has been out on loan at Rushden & Diamonds, Chester, Wrexham, Bristol City and Crewe.
