Gradi Wants Keeper to Stay

Loan keeper Rhys Taylor

The Alex have enquired about extending on loan Chelsea stopper Rhys Taylor following a string of impressive performances.

Dario Gradi has admitted he would be delighted in extending highly rated goalkeeper Rhys Taylor’s stay at Gresty Road. Signing the player permanently would appear unlikely due to budget constraints and Chelsea’s high regard for the 20 year old but an extension to his loan may be a possibility and talks are ongoing.

Gradi told BBC Stoke "He's done well, he's very quick and he keeps the ball out of the net which is a good start. I'd like him for as long as possible but I don't want to trap him should he lose his place to Steve Phillips,"

Phillips who signed permanently during the close season, having previously been on loan at the club, has so far been ruled out with a shoulder injury and is thought to be near a return. "Steve Phillips is on schedule, doing goalkeeping work with Paul Anthrobus who does goalkeeping coaching for the academy so he's nearly there.”
