Chelsea FC
A Brilliant Finale For Hazard
By Gary Watton

If you're going to clock out of your glittering Chelsea career, you might as well sign off with a European winner's medal and a brace of goals in the final, and that is what departing club legend Eden Hazard duly did. The Belgian maestro will sit comfortably alongside the likes of Alan Hudson, Pat Nevin, Arjen Robben, and Gianfranco Zola as the most creative genius that Chelsea Football Club has fielded in the last fifty years.

Meanwhile our dearest friends of Arsenic proceeded to donate the Europa League to us courtesy of a characteristic second half meltdown that enabled Chelsea's three leading scorers to each help themselves to a cup final goal. Although substitute Iwobi responded with a peach of a strike, it was that man Hazard who had the final say, as he stroked the ball with his left foot beyond another club legend, Petr Cech.

Let's hope that old Sarri is granted a stay of execution by his trigger happy employers. To dismiss someone who has supervised a return to the Champions League and topped off the topsy-turvy campaign with our fifth European silverware would be a folly.

The board must resist the temptation to succumb to fans' pressure and recruit Frank Lampard. Such an appointment will only result in this club legend being spat out one or two years down the line too. Sarri, for all his drama queen histrionics, has earned the right to start the next season as the new manager. However perhaps his own appetite for a row could see him talk himself out the door, in much the same way as his compatriot Conte fell foul of the Chelsea hierarchy.

Whatever unfolds, Chelsea supporters will fondly remember the night when the team scored four goals in a cup final for the first time ever, thereby preventing Arsenic from qualifying for the Champions League: a really superb double whammy!
