Turf Moor Sleep Out

By Burnley FC
October 15 2019

The Turf Sleepout is fast approaching with over 50 Burnley FC supporters signed up to take part in the event so far.

On Friday 15th November, Burnley FC in the Community, homelessness charity Emmaus Burnley and SafeNet Domestic Abuse Service are encouraging business leaders and fans to pledge to spend one-night sleeping pitch side in the Turf Moor stadium to raise vital funds and awareness of homelessness in the region.

According to research by housing charity Shelter in 2018 at least 320,000 people are homeless in Britain. This amounts to a year-on-year increase of 13,000, a 4% rise.

Over £28,000 was raised from last year’s Turf Sleepout with the funds raised split equally between the three charities. Burnley FC in the Community used the funds to support the most disadvantaged members of the community through their various sport, health, education and inclusion programmes.

Absolutely disgraceful the homeless crisis in this country, ffs anyone see that flat in Brighton £250 a week to sleep right next to the bog. Westminster has allowed the rich to buy up too much property, it’s not the poor which are costing the taxpayers billions in housing benefits, it’s rich landlords over charging and the government failing to build council housing. Your taxes going into the pockets of greedy landlords instead of back into the social system.

When housing costs more than 30% of income society has a problem.
