Blues v Hartpury

By TryBlues
October 27 2026

This week we facy Hartpury at Goldington Road 3pm Saturday, but hopefully it won't be another horror show on halloween! Hartpury like Nottingham have not been as good as last season so far winning 1 and losing 4.  However they are never an easy side to play.

After a slow start the last 2 game for Blues have been much improved and they will be looking for another 5 point win this Saturday.

With a week off, hopefully some of the players missing more recently will return to action.  The exception will be long term injured Jamie Jack.

I think we’ll be rotating a few to give some of our other players a game. I know we won’t take Hartpury lightly, but we can’t go full strength week after week, it’s a very long season. COYB

I would start George Worth and Kyde Silvestre for sure.
However, we don’t want to break the recently re-established player connections that appeared to work better in the last two games. Rotation is probably a constant in the modern game, so we have to make it work. An interesting challenge.

Dan Eckersley should be fit so I expect/hope he’ll start.

In my humble opinion we have to put aside this year's form for both club's and veiw the game as last years second team versus last years sixth team.

Hartpury are a difficult club to play you never quite know who's going to turn up, however remember Hartpury played very well against Worcester last time out........it ain't going to be that easy.

But in Rayer and his team we trust, no bonus point game.... but in my book its a home win.

Good to see Evkersley playing at last and I’m really keen to see how Dufficy goes as the starting 10.

Strong team, excited to see how Dufficy does at 10, although I’m hoping common sense prevails and we let Booj have goal kicking duties. Really think Eckersley can have a big impact this year, hopefully he gets a couple of trademark turnovers. Having Craig Wright is a big bonus.

Its best to ignore parts of the first half.....then the second half uphill the Blues turned up the gas, Mr Rayer had spoken... ..we are lucky to have such talented players here at Goldington Road, not just the ones who score the tries its the ones who make the tackles who play in defence week after week and rarely get on the score sheet....talent come s in all forms...

Alex Day and Deano shared MOTM which was probably deserved but Rory Ward was also outstanding today.

Great win and some good performances all round. One slightly worrying thing is that without Will Maisey we don’t have a place kicker. Also let’s hope he stays fit as the injury to Dufficy looked like it will keep him out for a while.

In summary, good win and real signs of recovering player connections.

Particular well done to coaches and Rayer for selection choices. Great to give starts to Ben and Dan. The strongest Blues bench that I can remember.

The game exposed some key points for me including:
1) we need to develop and prove a [medium term] backup kicker. Sorry Booj you’re not that man.
2) both our wingers are doing more work than I can recall as typical. Marcus was very effective yesterday in both directions. Deano was…….. Deano.
3) Rory is ‘the leader’ ….Every stoppage he was galvanising the team. We need a similar character in the backs.
4) George is close to our most valuable squad player. He’s developing in every aspect.
5) we need two top level young guns in our squad to develop for next season and beyond. I emphasise ‘top’ because they have big boots to contest, but contest they must, for 27-28.

Well played Blues. Great squad effort. Great tactical performance. Great selection performance.
Hartpury won’t finish bottom whilst they have their number 10. Job done.
