Barnsley fought hard for a well-earned point against runaway leaders Wolverhampton Wonderers at Oakwell.

The reds worked their socks off and defended resiliently throughout limiting the visitors to only a couple of chances and condemning them to no efforts on target throughout the 90 minutes.

The visitors did rattle the cross bar, miss from about a yard and have a couple ruled out for offside but despite having a lot of possession they found it hard to break down the reds rear-guard.

I thought that Lindsey, Pinnock and Yiadom were outstanding at the back, as was Gardner just in front of them. Cavare was ok but on Saturday’s evidence I am struggling to see what McCarthy has done wrong to not be selected ahead of him.

Pinnock for me has been our best player since he came in to the team. He seems to have stepped up effortlessly and if he continues this form then he could be attracting interest from other clubs pretty soon.

Potts probably had his best game to date but still looks way off Championship pace. He is just too slow to react both in and out of possession.

Bradshaw worked hard up top but in my opinion he needs to be playing in a two up top or not at all. He offers nothing for the team when deployed as a lone striker. He can’t hold the ball up and he has the physical presence of child when compared to some of the centre halves we come across. He will run about and press but this usually comes to nothing as they just play the ball round him.

You can’t fault his goals this season but most were early on in the campaign. I would now be looking to pick Moore and Thiam ahead of him and use him coming off the bench in the second half if we need a goal.

I would like to see two up top a bit more now especially at home but we have to be realistic in games where we can do it and Villa away will be a game where we need the five across the midfield. Hopefully Isgrove will be fit for that one as I don’t really fancy seeing Potts on the right wing again.

I would happily take another 0 – 0 at Villa but I feel with the form they are in and the way they dismantled us at Oakwell that this could be another hammering.
