England Hope For Simple Passage

While Nigeria have nothing but pride to play for, England are hoping they don't end up having to say au revoir to Japan, just like France have had to do today to Korea.

I think the majority of people will be glad to see the back of the arrogant French, who just didn't get going. With the strike force they have in players such as Henry and Trezeguet, it is hard to think how they managed not to hit the back of the onion bag.

Every Englishman's second favourite team, Ireland, have today qualified into the last 16. Their 3-0 victory against the Saudis was enough to guarantee them 2nd position in group E. The Saudis are now off back home and were seen leaving the stadium riding off into the sunset on the back of a camel each.

So, the big question is. Can England match Ireland and claim a place in the 2nd stage?

Before the tournament started, I predicted that England can go all the way and come back home with the trophy for the first time since 1966.

After the defensive performance against Argentina, I can't see us leaking many goals. The only goal we have conceded was a daft mistake by Danny Mills. But he more than made up for that against the Argies. If we can keep solid at the back then it is up to the midfield and attack to provide the goals. Goals should not be a problem. Although I am not convinced about Heskey, there is no doubt that it is only a matter of time before Owen gets a goal. He was close against Argentina, lets hope tomorrow he gets a goal.

I think the starting line-up tomorrow will be:

A win tomorrow for both us and Sweden and it will be a case of "Don't cry for me Argentina" as they will be on their way home. That would mean two of the favourites out in consecutive days. Clearing the way for a easy path to the World Cup final for England. Fingers crossed eh?
