Stephen Craigan had a perfect night, as he scored the only goal in his testimonial game against Partick Thistle tonight.

The goal came in only the second minute, Nicky Law combined with Jamie Murphy and the striker was pulled down by the Thistle keeper for a blatant penalty.

There was only one player who was going to take it, and Craigan stepped up to send what looked like a coolly taken penalty that nestled in the bottom right hand corner. Although afterwards he admitted he only made up his mind where he was hitting it at the very last second!

Motherwell dominated the first half and should have been two or three up by the break. Michael Higdon saw a point blank header blocked by Fox, and then Law saw a deflected shot brilliantly saved by the keeper.

The best chance fell to Murphy who combined with Law once again and rounded the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line by former Well man Willie Kinninburgh.

The second half was a poor affair with Motherwell coming close late on when Murphy hit the bar with an 18 yard shot.

McCall took the chance to give Craigan a standing ovation by replacing him with Saunders with a minute left. This was no more than the man of the moment deserved.
