Well back at work

Jennings

Motherwell players returned to work yesterday when they reported for pre-season training.

There was much complaining from a number of them on Twitter last night that they had returned as the sun came out! Worse was to follow for them today as they were put through a triple session to help get their fitness and sharpness up.

Motherwell have started back a little later than many of the SPL teams, but that can be forgiven for me. Last season we started earlier than everyone thanks to the Europa League and then 53 games later finished a week later than everyone else (apart from Celtic) with the Scottish Cup Final.

There was only one new face at training yesterday with Michael Higdon being there instead of John Sutton. Steven Jennings also returned although he doesn’t appear to have signed a new contract yet, although it is expected he will in the next few days.

It is also widely accepted we will be signing Nicky Law from Rotherham on Friday, the day after his contract runs out. It also hope Gavin Gunning will return on another loan from Blackburn.

The manager says he will be happy with that given it would be we had only lost John Sutton from last season’s squad. Although it seems to overlook we had Steve Jones, Franny Jeffers and Maurice Ross for the latter part of last season.
