McCall

The club have finally released the list of names of players who will be leaving this summer after their contracts have expired.

There is a mixture of First Team and Under 19 players who have reached the end of their contract but will not be offered new terms;

Maurice Ross, Angelis Charalambous, Esteban Casagolda, Francis Jeffers,  Steven Meechan, Liam Sloan (U19), Gavin Griffin (U19) and Bradley Halsman (U19)

There is possibly only one real surprise there for me, I had thought Maurice Ross may have been offered another year after some impressive performances during his short stay at the club.

It is also disappointing to see Cup final hero Jim Griffin’s nephew Gavin being released.

Also leaving after their loan spells ended are Gavin Gunning who will be heading back to Blackburn Rovers, and Steve Jones who has also been released by Wallsall and will be looking for a new club.

Having said that, McCall is keen to bring Gunning back to the club after his successful loan spell. He intends to speak to Blackburn to see what their plans are for the player with a view to brining him back on loan, or maybe even in a more permanent role.

I for one wouldn’t mind seeing him back at Fir Park, he was a bit impetuous at times but did give decent cover at centre back and full back.

The following players have been offered extended terms; Stephen Craigan, Steve Jennings, Lee Hollis, Steve Howarth, Jamie Pollock, Tom Bradley and Ross McKinnon.

Obviously the key players we would want to sign on here are Craigan and Jennings and I sincerely hope they will in the weeks ahead.

What today’s news tells us that McCall has a busy few weeks ahead as he prepares a squad for the start of the SPL on 23rd July. This is without anyone being sold to generate funds for the club!
