Even with eight potential call offs for Scotland’s friendly with the Faroes there is still no space for any Motherwell players.
While it was disappointing that no Motherwell player was picked in the original squad it is now even more annoying that none have been called up with so many potential call ups.
Once again Gary Kenneth has been called up by Levein in preference to our own Mark Reynolds. Kenneth has won one cap to date in the disastrous friendly against Sweden when he was shown to be out of his depth.
We have also seen him at Fir Park twice in recent weeks, and he was ripped apart by Blackman, Murphy and Humphrey, confirming for me he is not International class.
Reynolds may not be good enough either, but his credentials are every bit as good as Kenneth’s. A regular in the Under 21s, a regular in the SPL since he was 19 which has seen him appear in Europe three years in a row, in a team finishing third and sixth in the last two seasons.
He has pace and can read the game well but still he is overlooked despite Levein being at Fir Park a couple of times this season.
This is without arguing the case for Murphy and Humphrey, particularly Murphy who played a major role for the Under 21s ahead of Goodwillie. The United man is now picked ahead of him in the full squad – something not right there!!!
