Alan Gow’s first goal for the club was enough to see Motherwell progress to the League Cup semi finals against Dundee United tonight.
The game was no where near the classic of Saturday’s League game but I am sure Motherwell fans will forget that if we are running round Hampden with the Cup in March!
Well almost scored a wonder goal in the 6th minute, a sweeping move involving Hateley, Humphrey and Gow saw a Murphy cross miss out the supporting strikers and the far post.
We continued to threaten in the first half with Gow forcing Pernis into a save and then Blackman being denied by the keeper when he was clean through.
At the other end Randolph did well to keep out a Dixon shot, with Jennings denying Scott Robertson when he looked like scoring from the rebound.
The best two chances of the second half fell to Motherwell with Blackman coming close on a couple of occasions. The game looked to be heading for extra time until Gow popped up with three minutes left.
Kenneth shanked a clearance out for a corner ad from the Hateley’s kick Bauben could only smash the ball off his own post. The ball then fell kindly for Gow to volley the ball home from close range.
This looked to have sealed the tie until a late stramash had Motherwell hearts in their mouths. A long throw wasn’t dealt with and Randolph had to scoop a close range effort from Cadamarteri off the line deep into stoppage time.
